There are two kinds of travellers 1) who carry a tourist map with well marked destinations and visit each and every spot and tick them off feeling accomplished, when they return they boast to all that they have visited each and every earmarked destinations and 2) who just hit the road with a vague destination in mind and end up finding new unexplored virgin territories, the ones who on their return speak about the journey and not merely about the places they visited. I belong to the later. I never bother about the destination. To me the journey is more important.

During the long weekend of Republic Day we wanted to visit the Gorai Pagoda however landed up finding a new place which we didn’t know existed in Mumbai. After visiting this place the better half asked me to abort my February Goa trip as this place was no less than Goa. And he was right.

While strolling on the Manori Beach we saw a huge cross at a distance. The cross was on top of a hill overlooking the sea. It had an uncanny resemblance to the Christ the redeemer statue of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. We desperately wanted to explore that place but somehow were unable to find our way. We started asking people about the huge cross but most of them were ignorant about it. Suddenly then someone told that the cross was near the Velankani Church in Uttan. He also gave us directions. Through a settlement of Koli fishermen we followed a narrow path we reached the church of Velankani.
